In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by twelve outlying districts. The Capitol is harsh and cruel and keeps the other districts in line by forcing them to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight-to-the-death on live TV. One boy and one girl between the ages of twelve and sixteen are selected by lottery to play. The winner brings riches and favor tohis or her district. But that is nothing compared to what the Capitol wins: one more year of fearful compliance with its rule. Sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen, who lives alone with her mother and younger sister, regards it as a death sentence when she is forced to represent her impoverished district in the Games. But Katniss has been close to dead before -- and survival, for her, is second nature. Without really meaning to, she becomes a contender. But if she is to win, she will have to start making choices that weigh survival against humanity and life against love. Acclaimed writer Suzanne Collins, author of the New York Times bestselling Underland Chronicles, delivers equal parts suspense and philosophy, adventure and romance, in this stunning novel set in a future with unsettling parallels to our present.

I devoured these 3 books in a weekend. I can’t wait to read the prequel next. I typically don’t enjoy these type of books but these were well written and interesting.

A great YA dystopian read, and well written. The first is probably the best here

Engaging story line and fleshed out characters. Reads a little like a YA, but this has the advantage of meaning it’s a quick read.

Very inspiring with strong main/side characters and a very descriptive and detailed plot.

The only reason this book didn’t get a 10 from me is because it is not my favourite genre. The writing was enticing and the pace was perfect. This is a book everyone should have the pleasure of reading at some point.

The best book in the series. I absolutely love how the story starts.

I had a good time. Not something mind-blowing, but it was interesting enough for me to want to continue with the story. I'm not deeply invested in the characters (the reason why I can't rate it any higher), although all the survival aspect was great!

O livro é realmente bom! independente da sua idade ele é bem construído e tem personagens cativantes. Apesar de ser considerado por muitos característico da época, ele é “um marco do fenômeno da distopia dos anos 2010”

Fantastic world building and character design, was adapted extremely well. Takes on classism, society's factions and how the rich should remain rich without becoming jarring is a great take on the current situation. The main lead is a great character with being both headstrong and resourceful. It only falls short with the romance subplot but as that is not the main part of the story, I do not see it as a big deal.

You will zip through this in one day if you put all else aside and it’s worth doing so I think

Loved the first book but series definitely went downhill. In particular found the third very unsatisfying.
