OVER 1 MILLION COPIES SOLD OF THE #1 BESTSELLING SERIES! Don't miss this New York Times bestselling "impossible to put down" (Buzzfeed) novel with deadly stakes, thrilling twists, and juicy secrets -- perfect for fans of One of Us is Lying and Knives Out. Avery Grambs has a plan for a better future: survive high school, win a scholarship, and get out. But her fortunes change in an instant when billionaire Tobias Hawthorne dies and leaves Avery virtually his entire fortune. The catch? Avery has no idea why -- or even who Tobias Hawthorne is. To receive her inheritance, Avery must move into sprawling, secret passage-filled Hawthorne House, where every room bears the old man's touch -- and his love of puzzles, riddles, and codes. Unfortunately for Avery, Hawthorne House is also occupied by the family that Tobias Hawthorne just dispossessed. This includes the four Hawthorne grandsons: dangerous, magnetic, brilliant boys who grew up with every expectation that one day, they would inherit billions. Heir apparent Grayson Hawthorne is convinced that Avery must be a conwoman, and he's determined to take her down. His brother, Jameson, views her as their grandfather's last hurrah: a twisted riddle, a puzzle to be solved. Caught in a world of wealth and privilege with danger around every turn, Avery will have to play the game herself just to survive. ** Avery's story continues in The Hawthorne Legacy and The Final Gambit

I found this book quite boring. The characters were a bit boring, I don't see why they showed any interest in the main character. She was dull, and lacked personality. For the plot, it would be almost impossible to guess what would happen next as the author hardly allowed the reader any information which would help with the riddles. The book was almost too fast paced to process anything. I felt like I was spectating the events, not like I was involved in them. The only reason I would maybe read the next book is because of a cliffhanger. Would not read again.

This boom got me out of my reading slump. I gasped in, almost, all the chapters. If you are looking for a short chaptered, fast paced, amazing plot twists, love triangle, mystery solving, and drama, I would definitely recommend this book ❤️

Fantastic, cunning and all consuming. Avery is just your average girl, in her below average world. Nothing about her life has been set in stone till now, when she mysteriously inherits from the brilliant mastermind that is Tobias Hawthorne. But how much of her life will be simple and easy after the task he’s put her to.

Great book, but I didn't really enjoy the romance, it felt kinda rushed. And tbh the mystery wasn't as interesting as everyone hyped it up to be, but the concept was really interesting so I would recommend it

I didn't like how the romance was portrayed and I didn't like the last clue with the black wood forest either , other than that I loved it.

This book was one of the best I've read. Legit wasn't expecting myself to even like it. It wasn't a really deep story but the twists and reveals here and there in the story really made me feel like I was playing a game while reading

8.5 like it was a pretty good read felt like it needed more at the end and then it delivered so it went up from like a 6.5/7 to an 8.5. I would recommend it to someone. It’s also clean as well🙋🏾‍♀️

I thought at first that I was going to loathe this book because of the main character, but it got way better as the story progressed. I still could’ve done without the whole “These things don’t happen to girls like me” woe is me kind of trope in the beginning though. This book was super fun. I love books/shows with game aspects to them. All the clues were woven so well together! I swear, sometimes I would be close to getting the answer before she did, but I never was spot-on. It’s so interesting how the author could develop such a maze and journey for the characters. The tension and atmosphere in this book is sooo good. I mean, it stressed me out severely and gave me creeps once in awhile, but that just means it did a good job! I’m still a little salty with Jameson. I swear, he was playing Avery! Overall, her interactions with the brothers were entertaining though. Nash and Libby...I’m intrigued. Also my brain hurts from this book🤯
