The Instant New York Times Bestseller and TikTok Sensation! As seen on THE VIEW! A BuzzFeed Best Summer Read of 2021 When a fake relationship between scientists meets the irresistible force of attraction, it throws one woman's carefully calculated theories on love into chaos. As a third-year Ph.D. candidate, Olive Smith doesn't believe in lasting romantic relationships--but her best friend does, and that's what got her into this situation. Convincing Anh that Olive is dating and well on her way to a happily ever after was always going to take more than hand-wavy Jedi mind tricks: Scientists require proof. So, like any self-respecting biologist, Olive panics and kisses the first man she sees. That man is none other than Adam Carlsen, a young hotshot professor--and well-known ass. Which is why Olive is positively floored when Stanford's reigning lab tyrant agrees to keep her charade a secret and be her fake boyfriend. But when a big science conference goes haywire, putting Olive's career on the Bunsen burner, Adam surprises her again with his unyielding support and even more unyielding...six-pack abs. Suddenly their little experiment feels dangerously close to combustion. And Olive discovers that the only thing more complicated than a hypothesis on love is putting her own heart under the microscope.

I couldn't even get myself to finish it. Her only personality trait is being fragile and in need of his protection and his is being a total to everyone except for her and of course being tall

Fun and enjoyable read, cute rom com and a handful of cliches. I liked the characters, the surprise spice was nice, the romance was good but it was lacking more excitement for me. It was hard to believe Olive’s blindness to Adam’s feelings and the constant messy lies were unnecessary in my opinion. However, it was still a fun and quick rom com.

I loved this. Every chapter made me feel giddy and if it didn’t then I felt and understood the hurt of the characters. It had so many cliche romance tropes however it was just the perfect amount.

Unless there's something very wrong with the book or is boring AF then I'll enjoy reading a smutty rom-com. And The Love Hypothesis is neither of those. I had a great time. It was fun, explored much-appreciated topics, brought the story close to the real world, and it was cute. Although I didn't enjoy the financial dependence Olive enjoyed having on Adam. And the height difference. Oh. My. Goodness. There is the whole fixation on Adam being stupidly taller than Olive. And I don't get it. Other than using physical attributes to make Adam's character desirable, their dynamic was entertaining and left me wanting more.

i think i already knew how it ends when they begin the fake relationship thing, of course they'll fall in love. But i love how the author brought up some sensitive issue to the story.

I couldn’t finish it tbh. Too slow burn for me. The characters are cute I guess but it’s only her perspective so got kinda boring. I prefer dual view point

Reading this book felt like falling into a bed of marshmallows. The chemistry between two protagonists has never felt this real in a book, it’s absolutely hilarious but also gut wrenching at times. Well fleshed out side characters too. Probably my favourite rom com type book

better version of the spanish love deception, not the greatest book but i felt like this had more substance to it. she had her own life and he had his own life. the fake dating trope and its conflict was also pretty meh for me, did make my heart ache but wasn't the bestest book. not sure it was worth ALL the hype

Hazelwood debuts with a charming, offbeat rom-com pairing a somewhat awkward doctoral candidate with a hotshot young professor. Olive Smith, a third-year PhD student in biology at Stanford University, doubts that happily ever after exists, while her bestie, Anh, is a hopeless romantic. But Olive briefly dated Anh’s current crush, Jeremy, and now Anh’s refusing to act on her feelings because of “girl code.” In an attempt to prove she’s over Jeremy and alleviate Anh’s guilt, Olive impulsively kisses famously irascible professor Adam Carlsen and convinces him to “fake-date” her. But as attraction and chemistry grow, their relationship becomes more than pretense. Things further evolve after Olive is harassed and belittled at a professional conference and Adam provides a supportive shoulder. But can their relationship hold up in the real world? With whip-smart and endearing characters, snappy prose, and a quirky take on a favorite trope, Hazelwood convincingly navigates the fraught shoals of academia. The delightful supporting characters, especially Adam’s colleague Holden Rodriquez and Olive’s friends Malcolm and Anh, add flavor—and readers will love seeing the villain of the story dispatched in appropriate fashion. This smart, sexy contemporary should delight a wide swath of romance lovers.
