About the book

image4.2/5.0

Read the cult-favorite coming-of-age story that takes a sometimes heartbreaking, often hysterical, and always honest look at high school in all its glory. Now a major motion picture starring Logan Lerman and Emma Watson, The Perks of Being a Wallflower is a funny, touching, and haunting modern classic. The critically acclaimed debut novel from Stephen Chbosky, Perks follows observant “wallflower” Charlie as he charts a course through the strange world between adolescence and adulthood. First dates, family drama, and new friends. Sex, drugs, and The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Devastating loss, young love, and life on the fringes. Caught between trying to live his life and trying to run from it, Charlie must learn to navigate those wild and poignant roller-coaster days known as growing up. A years-long #1 New York Times bestseller, an American Library Association Best Book for Young Adults and Best Book for Reluctant Readers, and with millions of copies in print, this novel for teen readers (or “wallflowers” of more-advanced age) will make you laugh, cry, and perhaps feel nostalgic for those moments when you, too, tiptoed onto the dance floor of life.

I absolutely loved this book, I can’t tell you how many times I’ve cried. Charlie as a character is beautiful and uniqe and makes me feel related to. I want to quote the ending (no spoilers) because it was just too beautiful "So, if this does end up being my last letter, please beliveve that things are good with me, and even when they're not, they will be soon enough. And I will believe the same about you." And there I bawled my eyes out.

Although I did enjoy reading this book it felt a little flat to me. The book felt so lonely and distant. I really liked the main character, but he was the only character I really cared for, because it felt like he was the only character I was introduced to. But besides that, I really liked the book and it actually made me sob a little.

I loved how it was his diary entry. I can somewhat relate emotionally to the main character and that is why it was so great to read, but incredibly emotional. Has somewhat of a happy ending :)

No book written by an adult has ever made me feel so understood as a teenager. Hits on another level. One of the best books I’ve ever read. And I think every teenager should read it. Fantastic!

Probably one of my favourite books. Although relatively short, it tells the heartbreaking story of Charlie, somewhat of an outcast taken into a group of misfits. Read this book, then watch the movie.
