About the book

image4.4/5.0

Greece in the age of heroes. Patroclus, an awkward young prince, has been exiled to the court of King Peleus and his perfect son Achilles. Despite their differences, Achilles befriends the shamed prince, and as they grow into young men skilled in the arts of war and medicine, their bond blossoms into something deeper - despite the displeasure of Achilles's mother Thetis, a cruel sea goddess. But when word comes that Helen of Sparta has been kidnapped, Achilles must go to war in distant Troy and fulfill his destiny. Torn between love and fear for his friend, Patroclus goes with him, little knowing that the years that follow will test everything they hold dear.

Oh good lord. This broke my heart into tiny pieces. I thought it wouldn't hit so hard, but that last paragraph just hit me unconscious.

Whew. What a read. The way in which Madeline Miller describes the love and affection between Achilles and Patroclus was intensely beautiful.

I enjoyed reading this book, only in certain moods. The pacing was a little too slow for me and i wish there was more detail into the romance and that the war was featured after a few chapters

Really liked the writing, beautiful and immersive. The book had me blushing and with butterflies. Didn’t cry like most people said one would but still a lovable story. Seeing their love grow and evolve is what made the story for me

This book was honestly a little hard to get into at first, especially cause I’m not super familiar with mythology. But, after the beginning it got really interesting, and I really began to like it. It really made me feel all the feels, which honestly even when I was upset at a character or another, I would just think damn it’s so well written that I’m actually getting upset at this character. A lot of people said that I would cry when I read it, and honestly I didn’t cry that much at the end, but it was still a pull at the heart strings type of ending. I would recommend it for people to read :) just get past the beginning and it gets interesting

Haven’t finished reading it yet but reading this while knowing what’s going to happen really hurts. The writing is beautiful and the characters are so fun to read.

The story was good but very long. I felt like not much happened for a while half way through. It was interesting and loved it being mythology. Sort of saw where it was going so not huge surprises.

I initially read this book because of how popular it was on tiktok but I’m so glad that I read it. Madeline Millars writing is so beautiful and almost poetic that it made me keep reading, even when the plot was slowing down. The love between Patroclus and Achilles is so flawed and perfect at the same time, my new fav book!

I read this book with high expectations because of all the hype it gets on social media. For me it didn’t really live up to it. It was still a good book just not one of my favorites. I certainly flat the connection between the characters, the story and writing style was beautiful. I might feel that way because English isn’t my mother tongue and this was one of the first books I read in English, so I don’t think I was able to appreciate the poetic writing. I did not sob at the end tough. Overall, I liked it and I would recommend (already borrowed it to a friend 😆)

I loved this BOOK. Didn’t think i was going to say this. I THOUGHT it was just a random romance BOOK and wasn’t worth the hype. I was wrong. Very very very wrong.
