In the pre-Civil War United States, Solomon Northup, a free black man from upstate New York, is abducted and sold into slavery. Facing cruelty as well as unexpected kindnesses Solomon struggles not only to stay alive, but to retain his dignity. Striking, riveting and poignantly true. The power held in scenes throughout the film, definitely opens minds to a hurtful past. Not for the faint hearted yet still kept me engaged all the way through.

Watched this a couple of days ago. Such a marvellous piece of work showing the real face if humanity. Give the goosebumps through out the movie
