After escaping with Newt and Hicks from the alien planet, Ripley crash lands on Fiorina 161, a prison planet and host to a correctional facility. Unfortunately, although Newt and Hicks do not survive the crash, a more unwelcome visitor does. The prison does not allow weapons of any kind, and with aid being a long time away, the prisoners must simply survive in any way they can.

I’ve seen this film get a lot of hate, and I can understand some of the reasons, but I truly enjoyed the majority of this film. This is no technical masterpiece, but I think the writing was done very well and that the plot was a unique spin for this franchise. Ripley’s arc throughout this film was very thought out because it addresses her trauma and experiences from the first two films as well as justifies her decisions towards the end of this film. This isn’t perfect, but it definitely feels essential to the Alien franchise. Maybe I’m wrong. David Fincher is a director I’ve heard a lot about but never explored, so it was interesting to see his direction here (especially since this is the first feature film he directed).

Likely considered a sin for me to score this as same as first two films but I've always felt that this is an under rated film. It's the perfect bookend to what was as close to a perfect trilogy as I've seen imo (obviously not a trilogy anymore but at time). It's brave, doesn't shy away from doing opposite of what fans are wanting to drive story forward. It's not perfect but it's still daring, it still tries to be loyal to what's come before whilst making its own mark. A great performance from Weaver as always, some tense scenes and an ending I really thought they'd chicken out of at last second. Fincher hates it, most fans hate it. I love it. The extended version is even better too ;)

The 3rd best alien film on my opinion. This really brought nothing much to the table and provided a rather stale, slow and ultimately unneseccary inamstallment to the franchise. Such a shame seen as though its from fincher - 6/10
