A milquetoast and muddled thriller that drowns in its frenzied homages, The Woman in the Window will have audiences closing their curtains.

It’s not a terrible film but I did have to fight to stay awake. I started dosing in and out of sleep at one point so I can say with confidence it was not captivating.

I feel if I went to see this in theaters I’d be disappointed. But for a Netflix and Chill night, the several twists in the movie were enough to keep me captivated.

I read the book and thought I remembered the twist at the end. But I only remembered half of it! So I still screamed and needed Elliot C. to hold me for at least 30 minutes. And then I still had nightmares. So pretty good?

It tries desperately to blend classic, Hitchcock-era style with the suspense-thriller genre that you usually see at the front of the airport book store (think Gone Girl or Girl on the Train). Falls flat at both.

Lists of twists and turns but most definitely a film you must give your all or you’ll be lost in the first 10-minutes.

It's funny I keep seeing this advertised on the buses as I look out my window. Me.. a woman in the window 😅 Felt I had to see what it was about. 🪟 Eh.. not as good as I hoped. It felt long even though it wasn't. I was very curious for the reveal of what was going on.. didn't feel like it landed. There was one shot I adored adored (SPOILER: it was where the snow and car was in the house). This was hard to rate.. it wasn't bad but it just wasn't all that good. Didn't land sums it up for me. 🤷🏽‍♀️

So, I found it really frustrating. On the one hand there were some really great bits in there, and a couple of brilliant jumpy moments. It felt very Hitchcock-esque in places, but also done really crap and predictable bits. A little by the numbers, and somewhat predictable, but overall an enjoyable way to spend just under a couple of hours. Oldman and Adams never disappoint, so there's that as well.

It started off as Hitchcock’s “ Rear Window” till it starts pulling out on its own with a different psychological twist of its own. Nice take on an already amazing thriller holding on its own.

Copycat was a much better film about an agoraphobic doctor cured by a serial killer
