Good movie, captures the horror pretty well, I don't like the wokeness in it, I know racusm exists, I don't need a horror movie to tell me this, this is why the ending was so bad 😭

Candyman takes an incisive, visually thrilling approach to deepening the franchise's mythology -- and terrifying audiences along the way.

Knowing horror sequel Nia DaCosta’s visually impressive take on the cult 1992 film gives it a meta art-world twist.

I was waiting for this movie since I watched its trailer. Finally got to watch it today after such a long wait. I feel like I missed a lot of what this movie was tryna convey. I loved some scenes in this movie, and found some to be quite boring. But all in all it was a good watch. The visuals are stunning I gotta admit! The pacing feels slow sometimes, but I feel like this movie needs to be watched a few times to fully comprehend the underlying aspects of it, which I clearly missed! I adore Jordan Peele, and after Get out I was super pumped for this one, but in the end I felt the ending was kinda anticlimactic. I am split on it! Dunno how to feel bout this movie!!!!! 😩

Unnerving 2021 Horror Sequel Stands Apart From Original While introducing a few arcs it doesn’t fully explore, Candyman is replete with haunting imagery, disconcerting horror, and thought-provoking themes.

For as long as residents can remember, the housing projects of Chicago’s Cabrini Green neighborhood were terrorized by a word-of-mouth ghost story about a supernatural killer with a hook for a hand, easily summoned by those daring to repeat his name five times into a mirror. In present day, a decade after the last of the Cabrini towers were torn down, visual artist Anthony McCoy (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) and his girlfriend, gallery director Brianna Cartwright (Teyonah Parris), move into a luxury loft condo in Cabrini, now gentrified beyond recognition and inhabited by upwardly mobile millennials. With Anthony’s painting career on the brink of stalling, a chance encounter with a Cabrini Green old-timer (Colman Domingo) exposes Anthony to the tragically horrific nature of the true story behind Candyman. Anxious to maintain his status in the Chicago art world, Anthony begins to explore these macabre details in his studio as fresh grist for paintings, unknowingly opening a door to a complex past that unravels his own sanity and unleashes a terrifyingly viral wave of violence that puts him on a collision course with destiny.

📣 Top user review: What a real shame, could and should have been great. There is no real horror, suspense or scares here. The story ends up driving more racial tones than keeping it around an urban legend and the character. The film was shot real nice, but overall let down by the actors (forgettable) and the predictability of everything within. This film falls in the straight to VHS sequels to the original. Swing and a miss here. Real shame.

A little too heavy on the social commentary (especially the ending), not enough scares. Liked that they tied in the 'artist' theme to this one.

A really fascinating and important retelling (more of a reframing) of the original story. I loved the way it used the medium of an urban legend but mixed it with a very real struggle to make a powerful statement. Sadly I think the meaningfulness of this film will be lost on the average movie goer due to its reboot / remake style (we're all sick of reboots). This isn't one but feels like one. Not as grim or scary as I was hoping, but powerful and important.

Went to a drive in cinema to watch this last night.. it wasn’t great! I would say wait until it’s on a streaming site or free to view on tv. It had the feel of the original, which was good because it wasn’t broke so don’t try and fix it.. but then it was ruined by ‘race’ the film began to revolve around how the white man this and the white man that and it wasn’t needed. It over powered the film unfortunately. The actor used to replace the original candy man was a good match and he played the part well. It was a decent film but I expected more!

Nia Dacosta directed her ass off with this very faithful and thought provoking reboot of the classic film. I hate how some people went to this thinking it was going to be a slasher film with a insane amount blood and gore. This movie wanted to focus alot on the purpose and the impact of Candyman. This movie takes its time and really flesh out the lore of the character and really cared more about its story. The Kills were beautifully directed and the Cinematography is top notch. This movie has some nice eye candy shots to stare at. Of course the acting was great as well with everyone being on top of there game. This did not disappoint at all.

Like that it references the original movie rather than being an all out reset
