📣 Top user review: Trying too much to be about diversity and including gay people. It is ruining the MCU The direction they are going is ridiculous...........no one cares about diversity and policial correctness it is not necessary for a movie.

I’ll put down my conclusion first; if Eternals proven anything, it simply proves what Martin Scorsese said about marvel films is right, they are not cinema. Chloe Zhao is a very unique filmmaker, with her usually distant / outsider directing style and landscape shots, she is the best director to direct something like Eternals. But Marvel did not prepare its audiences for this. I personally enjoyed the film and believe it’s a very refreshing film to an already heavy loaded universe, yet this is based on my love for art school cinema. This film presents the fact that Marvel does need a change - without rushing. Back to agreeing “Marvel is not cinema”, I feel like Eternals would do so much better if Disney willing to give Chloe more directing freedom. Right now the results feel more or less forced, there are so much to explain but it all came down to the basic love and family. Some part of the editing feels lazy (yes I am talking about the flashback scenes during the final fight), which is a shame since all these characters have strong personalities. They have picked amazing actors like MCU always does, which makes it even more of a pity. A film can only be called cinema when the creators willing to dig deeper into society problems. Eternals could’ve been MCU’s starting point of exploring such topics, but they hesitated. In my opinion, this conflict of staying or stepping out of their comfortable killed the film, leaded to the ending we are seeing now. I do wish Marvel could continue Eternals with a better way of approaching the story. (And yes Harry Styles does look good as Starfox)

November 5, 2021 (9/10): So. The newest entry from the Marvel Cinematic Universe has arrived, and I’ve got a lot to say. Technically, this film is beautiful. The shooting, lighting, scenery, and general filmmaking are all done in a way that feels foreign to many superhero films, particularly those within the MCU. Chloé Zhao is very clearly a competent director who takes a lot of care in crafting with a camera. This film gives us two individuals from communities that haven’t been represented well within the MCU until now, and does so in a way that feels both natural and representative of human life. We see Phastos, the first openly gay superhero within the MCU as well as Makkari, a deaf speedster. Seeing this representation in a film that’s about the beauty in humanity despite its flaws was amazing to see. The acting in this film is great all around. I don’t think there is a single role in this film that was cast incorrectly. We see so many types of people within the Eternals themselves, and that alone makes this superhero team so unique. The world building was a bit sloppy with time jumps thrown throughout, however they do a lot to establish the history of the Eternals on Earth as well as the part that the Celestials have on the universe as a whole. The plot feels a bit strange at times and the character development isn’t perfect. However, I’m thrilled with this film as a whole and I’m excited to see some of these characters return throughout upcoming MCU projects! January 12, 2022 (6/10): I knew my rating of this film was going to drop on rewatch. Ever since I saw this in theaters on release night, I’ve remembered so much of the bad with this film: the lack of characterization, some poor CGI, and bad writing. The only characters I truly love are Gilgamesh, Phastos, and Kingo. Each of the others could have a massive role in the future of the MCU, and I really hope we see them again soon. I really think we would have benefitted from an anthology series focusing on The Eternals throughout human history prior to the release of this film. That would have given time to develop these characters so that this film actually mattered. I’m proud of the MCU and Disney for showing some genuine representation in this film. We need that everywhere. This is one of the pieces holding my score at a 6/10 currently. As of today, this is second to last of my MCU ranking (just below season 1 of What If…?).

The definition of the friendspire’s “Meh” rating. High production value and MARVELous scenes. But, ridicules storyline, all to predictable and filled with endless fights with alien creatures and internal conflicts for 2 hours🙄

I don’t know who originated having sexual intercourse on the beach, cause that’s a terrible thing to have sex in the sand. Poor Sersi will be plucking sand out of her for the next millennium

I’m suffering major Marvel fatigue and can barely tell one of these movies from the other. Watched this one with low expectations, and while it’s slow moving and maybe lighter on action/villainry, it doesn’t really stray much from the Marvel formula. Same old, same old.

Shall we begin? Well this one's one of most beautiful and stunning movies from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It's very overwhelming and very much underrated and i have got a lot of thoughts about. No matter what people say, this movie is just beautiful, like literally beautiful with superb visuals and so much drama and soothing sound scores which made it extravagant as per me and I'm sure many like me. The creator's have picked a very sensitive tangent and have perpetuated very gracefully at their perspective of what could've happened, what is our dystopian past and how did we got to bound coheisively in forming religion, worship of God, empires and what not and how did our human race survived and evolved and came this far. Which is seriously described very beautifully. And how they've played the part of the eternals and the celestials was just super impressive. Especially the amazing star cast which played their respective roles, I was just so excited for each one of them. I loved all of them and don't think anyone of them is mis placed for their role. They were all charming and superb at their performance. There were moments of silence, seriousness, laughs and goosebumps throughout it's showtime. I know that many of us were in lost when we heard about the director of this Marvel movie. But i must say, I loved the way how Chloe Zao wanted us to imagine and visualise her dipiction of how she wanted to make the audience go lost in her vision. Though I sincerely hoped that the mediocrity of the storyline could've been improved, with some more magical CGI elements and It is different then your usual superhero movie, but like every movie's audience and fans, some love it and some hate it. Which clearly have had happened in this situation. Many fans couldn't understood the new idea of describing a superhero movie from a different perspective. I loved how charismatically every scene is shot, and every visual effects have been done which was just stunning. I'm all down for Eternals Part 2, can't wait for the next part to come. I'm Excited. If you've read till here, then i must say that you're a great reader and now i think you should go watch this movie. So yeah happy watching :)

I’d still watch it again because I hope better movies will stem out of this. At the same time, there are a lot of “inconsequential” or otherwise inexplicable events that populate this plot that make this subpar vs other Marvel stories

No no no and no. What is marvel doing. Characters were badly scripted and one dimensional, over complicated plot, it just feels that marvel is loosing its way. It did vaguely entertain but there is literally zero chance of me watching this again and I shall not be watching a second instalment.

Wow, super long and not so much in a good way. Characters developed, but my feelings for them didn't, it isn't one of my favorite Marvel movies, no doubt about that.

It is, in short, a bit of a mess. It is also—and I cannot stress this enough—2 hours and 37 minutes long. And yet because the talented, eclectic cast is so enormous and so much world-building must occur, “Eternals” ultimately feels rushed and unsatisfying. The mythology here is both dense and frequently silly, with the movie grinding to a halt around the one-hour mark for an extensive information dump. By the end, you may still be unclear as to what’s going on, but you also may not care.

This is hands down one of the most different Marvel movie that's out there. The cgi is so beautiful I was just blown away by what I was seeing. The cast all killed it as expected and the the post credit scenes were cool for setup. Other than that I don't really see a reason to come back to this movie ever. The movie is honestly just ok to me. It didn't leave a impression on me that will make me remember watched it. I will be interested to see what Chole Zhao directs next. This movie was honestly just a thrown away entry.

Everlasting comic-book mediocrity Despite some hammy fun and excellent casting, Chloé Zhao’s delicate vision is steamrollered in this latest Marvel yomp.

Not your typical Marvel film... But in a good way! Beautiful shots and a fully formed team of supers who build great history into Marvel. Very excited to see how this plays out in the next phase of films! ....also I think it's the first time I've heard an audible gasp during one of the post-credit scenes!

One of the most frustrating cinema experiences I've had in a long time. Every time it starts to get going and starts to get interesting, they slam on the brakes for another 15 of dull character interaction. Could have done with being about an hour shorter than it was.too.

Marvel's Phase 4 Experiment Is A Mostly Unique MCU Movie While Eternals has most of the benchmarks of a Marvel movie, Zhao's sprawling superhero epic is unlike anything the MCU has produced before.

Glad i saw it at home-all of the dialogue kept me involved(maybe a bit lackluster to some people, understandably),combat scenes were heavy(nice to see protagonist take diff sorts of damage and not to immediately shake it off).Kinda sad i didn't watch it in cinema- landscapes along with ancient folklore seemed captivating.Really liked social interconnections between heroes, theirs struggles and motivations were relatable, felt real. Some jokes made me chuckle. :D Ground work is set.Now i'm looking forward for the sequel!

I LIKE it but I didn’t LOVE it! Eternals doesnt deserve all the negative reviews it has been receiving… it is definitely not worse than Thor 2! On the contrary, it is so good. Every frame looks so grand and rich. But it isn’t flawless either, Eternals tries to be too much — and it suffers for it. Plot and pacing either confuses you or irritate! Kumail Nanjiani is a Scene-Stealer but star of the show is Gemma Chan ♥️. A Power house 💯

I personally liked this movie, It has a different feel then the other Marvel movies in a good way. The plot twist was great and how they used mythology To connect to the characters actions and personality's was a nice touch. The actors were great and the ending and end credits scene made me excited for more!

It's certainly a stylish movie, but none of its characters or storylines stay in clear focus long enough to be sure what you're watching or why you should care. It attempts to tease a soon-to-be-important character in the larger MCU...but throughout the film we only see that character for what feels like a minute, don't nothing that signifies their importance. Still a pleasant watch if you're down for a popcorn flick, or an MCU completionist.

There is some truly atrocious acting going on in this film. How Richard Madden keeps getting major roles is beyond me. The man is a poor actor. The story is sort of interesting but given the scope to give these characters a back story it just doesn’t happen. I didn’t really care about any of the characters, watching them snake through thousands of years of history but without giving you anything to connect with. Missed opportunity. The story itself is quite an interesting idea but having this supposedly in the same universe as the avengers is utterly stupid. While many of the other marvel franchise films feel woven together and genuinely in the same universe this feels like an insult to the effort that went to creating that reality. The film references the avengers and makes it clear it’s the same timeline and universe, presumably for future cross referencing but this is genuinely one of the worst marvel films for a long time. The actors are pretty much all terrible and everything about it feels forced. There’s zero emotion in the entire thing despite numerous attempts to make us feel for these characters. Oh and did I mention how bad Richard madden is in this. Painful. To top it off just when you think it can’t get any worse, Harry Styles shows up. At this point you are left wondering what on Earth they were thinking when they made this film.
