I finally got around to watching this movie this weekend! What an amazing performance by Phoenix. Oscar well deserved! I really enjoyed how they built the story around Joker and gave extra dimensions to his character. Yet, somehow I still felt a bit unresolved when it ended. I felt it had been building to a climax and finally when the ‘real joker’ came out the movie ended abruptly. Overall though it’s great movie though but slightly disappointed given the hype!

This movie made me uncomfortable but I guess that was the point of it, I really enjoyed it, however if I have to listen through another boy saying how much he supports and related to the the joker, I’m going to really petition to make this movie unwatchable.

This movie was ridiculous. Let's be honest Joaquin Phoenix IS the movie. He steals every scene he is in. I am a huge Robert De Niro fan, but he falls short compared to Phoenix's performance. The story is very well written, and the filmmaking is flawlessly executed. The movie has a very good flow to it, focusing heavily on character development and exploration instead of mindless violence and action. Very happy with the final result, however, I still think Heath Ledger was borderline a better Joker, but I still highly recommend this film. P.S. The ending will leave you debating the events of the movie well past the credits.

It was beautifully filmed and acted but superficially written. The back story of a loner and a psychologically unstable person that was forgotten by the system could have been a good one if there had been a little more to it. The story was simply and only that, he is unstable and the system sucks. We know that the system sucks and forgets those who need it. The only twist or difference it had was a laughing illness and Batman.

Joker is a movie about Todd Phillips' exploration of Arthur Fleck, a man disregarded by society. I was very excited when Warner Bros announced that they are going to release a movie about their take on The Joker's origin. I feel like it's a very hard movie to nailed and a very ambitious project. Then, I found out that Joaquin Phoenix is going to be their new Joker, which got me more excited. Cause Joaquin Phoenix was always a phenomenal actor, but he never had an iconic role and not very known by the mainstream audience. Todd Phillips as a director is famous for making comedy movies like The Hangover Trilogy and War Dogs (2016). So technically, this movie is his first "serious" vibes kind of movie., At first, I have a concern that the film will be too focused on showing us what makes The Joker so scary as a villain rather than building a character arc for The Joker and not trying to make us invest in the character. But, after watching it. I'm speechless. This movie is just phenomenal. Because right from the start of the movie. They immediately start building up the story about Arthur Fleck's character. There are no "warmup scenes" whatsoever. They just start telling us the story, so we can start to invest in it right from the start. , We sympathize with him because we see how tragic his life is. But as the film progress, we also see that he's about to trigger and become unhinged because of all the tragedy that happens to him. Our feelings towards Arthur Fleck is changing as we see all the decision and action that he chooses. From having sympathy for him to being terrified of him because he's unpredictable. He's a wild card. We don't know what kind of action he will take next. But we understand why he did what he did. Joaquin Phoenix as The Joker is just mesmerizing. His portrayal of The Joker feels like it truly belongs to him, it's different from the other version of The Joker. His take on The Joker's laugh is also unique. His laugh is just disturbing, unsettling and "painful". We can feel it. Every time his scene came up. He just grabs it. He dominates the scene every single time. There's this scene where he gives some kind of a speech. Just from the way he talks, he moves, his expression, his lip movement, his hand gestures. It screams The Joker. I think Joaquin's version of The Joker is the only Joker that is on par with Heath Ledger's Joker. Joaquin Phoenix truly deserves an Oscar nomination for his performance and I wouldn't be shocked if he did win the Best Actor nomination. I love that this movie is a character-centric story. It takes it's time to build the story and the character. It respects the process and doesn't rush it. It doesn't give a one big leap jump. But it adds a build-up to the story little by little. The pacing of the movie is just perfect. The movie also makes us questioned that if there's a possibility that we can be the reason why The Joker was born. Like we could play a role in creating such a monster. Because in the movie we see that The Joker is a product of society. The way society treats people like Arthur Fleck is the source of why The Joker exists. I think the whole point of The Joker's story was never about how The Clown Prince of Crime was born. Whether it's from the comic book's version or the films. It's about a tragic story of how one good man can be so corrupted and broken because of one bad day. "Is it just me, or is it getting crazier out there?", that's what Arthur Fleck said. My only small issue with the movie is that there's this one scene. It's an iconic scene that we've seen a ton of times. I'm just tired of it. Even though this version is the one that makes more sense compared to the others. Some people might hate that some of the scenes in the film share a lot of similarities to Taxi Driver (1976). But I'm okay with that. I highly recommend that everyone should watch this movie, don't even miss it. Everyone will have a great time experiencing this movie. But don't expect a ton of action and Batman in it. I'm very happy that a comic book movie can get this much discussion and reaction from the audience. Also showing that a comic book story/character can be this deep. This movie is a prime example of how to make a compelling villain.

A very good movie of a villain, as never seen before, shows you a world full of indifference and lack of empathy, to the point that it makes you doubt if it is a real villain.

Phoenix delivers a performance absolutely worthy of the Oscar for Best Actor he earned. The climax is a gut punch that stays with you long after the credits roll, however, the lead up to the conclusion doesn't quite hold up. The title character didn't have much of a journey throughout, instead being played at much the same level from beginning to end but it is definitely worth seeing, not only for the central performance, but for the beautiful cinematography as well, which really thrusts the viewer into this utterly bleak version of Gotham City.

At first I decided to boycott this movie because it was so violent! Then I decided That since Joaquin Phoenix was a vegan I would support him! I really liked the movie and he did a magnificent job playing this disturbed psycho who was victimized by society.

A beautifully crafted movie - dark and at times very violent but a powerful reflection on how it feels to be "nobody" and the consequences that can have for people who think they are "somebody" if the social contract is allowed to fall apart.

If cinema's job is to make us feel, to make us reflect upon how we've been living life, and to acknowledge some of its own brand of crazy, then I think Joker did a damn good job.

Man oh man, this was uncomfortable. The plot is decent - not phenomenal, not shit. The cinematography and acting in this baby, though... unreal. I spent much of the movie cringing into my theater chair, full of concern, dying of secondhand embarrassment. Phoenix's acting is devastatingly good.

Joaquin Phoenix raised everyone's expectations with this movie and definitely did justice to the role. If there's one actor who did the Joker role as close as Heath Ledger, then it's him.

The beat movie ever. Joaquin Phoenix is incredible and sooo talented. I loved the cinematography, there wasn’t a shot in the movie that hasn’t been thought through and you can really see it. Todd Phillips did an amazing job. The story line is also perfect. It is just a pleasure to watch, I really really enjoyed it. Watch it

Better than average as it offered an alternate point of view on the character Joker. Tho I found it a bit of exhausting as it had a documentary vibe to it, however I think everything boils down to individual inclination in movie form styles
