Decent-ish movie for a one time watch. Don't expect too much from it. You could watch it or probably skip this one out. It somewhat felt disturbing to me. And so much weird in a sense where you'd be like what the F is happening in the movie. That kinda weird. So your call totally. And a serious note - light hearted people shouldn't watch this movie. It's very much disturbing and could be bad for your mind.

Love the transitions, artwork, and shots. E.g. The transition from entering bathroom to airplane bathroom 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼 so good! Aesthetics were brill. Would love to analyse the artwork deeper, even art on barn walls and see if it shows of what happens. Pugh I've always loved so of course here, brill. As always. I did not know a thing before watching this, not even a glimpse of trailer (my fav way to watch a film is in total surprise) but fortunately I knew to expect an indie style film and someone said it's 'weird' - so then nothing actually surprised me 😅 I did kind of expect most of the plot to happen but it did hold it's own small surprises. 𝑺𝑷𝑶𝑰𝑳𝑬𝑹𝑺: I was waiting for confirmation that the pies they were eating were the friends 🥧 but I'll just have to assume that. I am curious for if she goes back or stays in the commune and embraces it. I mean that makes most sense.. and she has no other family. But maybe this was the cleansing and healing needed to start fresh. I do love that it doesn't explicitly tell you what happens.. and the ending was interesting. I would like to know why the foot was sticking out of the ground with a rune written on it.. also not smart hiding place.. why they said about Christian's sin and having a worse death or something? He did what they wanted.. Why that guy was told given something to feel no pain but screamed like he felt it? Why the sister killed the parents too? The message implied parents but wow that's dark.. then there was duct tape by their door like weren't supposed to die? Also that guy friend saying his parents died by fire... we know how that went down now!

I have no idea how to explain this movie but the best explanation is probably: what the fuck 🤯 so so weird, I didn’t find it scary more just very weird and creepy at times, but I mean it’s in Sweden sooooo 🤪🇸🇪

Amazing horror movie that disturbed and made me feel an emotion I didn't even know I had. Definitely worth a watch

I'm very disturbed by this movie and I will have the cliff scene imprinted in my mind for all eternity. I thought this wouldn't be that disturbing but I had a very disturbing feeling straight from the start of the movie and I feel like I have never seen something as disturbing as Midsommar. If you would like scary movies/disturbing/cultish movies I would recommend watching Midsommar because you will be scared for life with the cliff scene.

I love this movie but it took me a second watch to realise I fell for the cult programming🤦 I was so mesmerised by the aesthetics and them taking her in.

One of the most tedious, idiotic pieces of cubenai have ever seen. Dull and boring throughout, idiotic story line, way too many clichés it's simply a mess.

Absolutely incredible, physiologically challenging and intense throughout. Incredibly well made, executed and presented. As much as I love this, I will not be watching this again however. This is one of those ones where the first watch is just incredible, the second would be brilliant still, but never the same. I'm gonna enjoy remembering this one. Put time aside to mentally relax and process afterwards.

after watching this movie you really need some time to get over the crazy and horrifying storyline. But it’s really fun to think about the meaning behind the choices the producers made for the film.

This film was so unusual and visually spectacular. I was gripped by the end and then left wondering what happened. It's creepy and weird, but with none of the horror clichés. Will I watch it again? Hell no.

Ari Aster is Still one of my favorite horror directors working today but this one didnt really leave a impact on me. The movie is still beautiful to look at and very well acted by Florence Pugh. It was a good one time watch.

Tuesday night's movie was Midsommar starring Florence Pugh and Jack Reynor, and directed by Ari Aster of Hereditary fame. I've been looking forward to this movie since I first heard about it and then when I saw the trailer, it was a no-brainer. It just looked bonkers. I love Hereditary....some people didn't and I get that....it was a very divisive film with its whole demonology/occult theme. And the ending was weird for some people. I loved the movie for its atmosphere and the look and sound of it all. And that HUGE twist about a quarter or halfway through that NO ONE saw coming. I still remember gasping at THAT scene. So, like I said, I was looking forward to this film. And it didn't disappoint. It got bonkers. Boy, did it get bonkers. It concerns the tale of Dani and Christian, a couple just barely hanging on. They are just going through the motions. And then something absolutely terrible happens to Dani. Dani was emotionally needy before....and this tragedy just cripples her. And it puts further strain on their relationship. And then to make matters worse, Dani decides to join Christian and two of his friends on a trip to Sweden with a fellow student who hails from there. In fact, Pelle invited them to Sweden to participate in a midsummer traditional ceremony that his village/commune have. The group arrive and the film starts to get wonky. There are weird camera angles to throw your perceptions off. And then the group partakes in some mushrooms......and from there on out.....pretty much all bets are off. It's like one bad acid trip. Things just get more bizarre. You KNOW going in that it's going to get weird.....but it just keeps escalating. And most of the film takes place in glaring sunlight. Which is jolting. It's a horror film.....but it's not downright scary.....it's just more disturbing and unsettling. In broad daylight. But the weird thing is that it's a beautiful film full of color and flowers and nature and sky. At one point towards the end....when all heck is breaking loose....there is gorgeous swelling music....and beautiful colors.....and nature....and then you go, "Wait....what the heck is that?!!!! Eeeeewwwww!!!!" (To be honest, the thing that made me squirm the most was a roughly 30 second bit that concerned a dead fish. I had to shut my eyes. The bloody violence? No problem. A dead fish near someone's mouth? Nope. And, if you know me, you understand completely.) Once again.....this is going to be a divisive film. Some people will absolutely hate it. It won't be "scary" enough. There are some completely gory scenes. There is one scene that was so bizarre and disturbing that everyone was laughing....because you didn't know what else to do. It's not everyone's cup of tea.....hallucigenic or not. Nature has never been more disturbing or terrifying. Recommended for people who don't mind some gore, like horror that steps outside the boundaries, and enjoy some beautiful....yet extremely disturbing....imagery.

This movie has a unique trait because it can give sense of unsettling and disturbing feeling even with the bright, calming, and colourful pallette looks of the movie. Incredible use of camera angle, awesome transition between scenes, beautiful cinematography and a very good use of music and sound, also creates an unsettling ambience. Florence Pugh's perfomance in this movie is also incredible. She really sells the part as this broken woman who is dealing with grief, traumatic experience, and anxiety in her life. But as the film progress, this movie starts to struggle. In the first 20-30 minutes of the movie we see this set up on theme about grief and bad relationship. The kind of bad relationship that is, not because there's a very very bad thing happening in the relationship, but it's more like there's nothing good happening in the relationship and at the same time not trying to do something about it. Throughout the film the theme of the movie starts to fade and it's more about this big cult thing rather than the theme that was set up on the start of the film, so the first 20-30 minutes just become irrelevant to the story of the movie. The people in this movie also feels treated more like an object rather than a character. They are just there for the sake of "being there". This movie also doesn't feel original for me, because we see a lot of this pagan cult type story in other movies. It shares a lot of similarity with The Wicker Man (1973) and Apostle (2018). There's around 9 minutes of the movie that was cut for censorship reasons. Which I think could take a big chunk portion of the story. All I can say is Midsommar is beautiful, disturbing and unsettling, but sadly it forgets how to make a compelling story. That's why I feel somewhat underwhelmed watching it and I feel that the director Ari Aster, can do a lot better. For those of you that are interested in Pagan Cult type of movie or interested in filmmaking, I would highly recommend this movie. You should check it out and you will have a great time watching it. But if you only watch the movie only for the sake of watching only and don't like a slow pace, full of dialogs kind of movie, I wouldn't recommend it, because this kind of movie is not everyone's cup of tea. So I would understand if you don't like or hate the film.

👁️Amazon Prime

I loved the visuals of this film and it genuinely prickles and makes you uncomfortable to the last scene

Ari Aster found the way to make a psychological thriller during daylight. Never seen it before.

I had really high hopes for Midsommar considering all the hype surrounding its release. While the movie itself is definitely interesting the predictably and lack of development in the characters was disappointing. It is a fascinating concept and it was beautifully done for the most part, it’s just what it lacked was undeniably missing. I just wish there was more to it then what was laid out for you as a viewer, everything was apparent. Despite that visually it was stunning and if nothing else the graphics were what drove the movie. If you do like cult-type psychological horror this is definitely for you.

I saw it in theaters the first time and again for the director’s cut. The best horror film I’ve seen in years. Florence Pugh is amazing.

Though visually stunning and undeniably fascinating, the lack of good characterization and the excessively slow progression definitely knocks a few points off my review. The first half of the movie was far too boring for my liking, which was a surprise to me considering I tend to enjoy movies with such slow progression. The latter half was far more captivating, yet I still found myself wishing that the characters were more likable, or at the very least, more dimensional. It definitely wasn't a bad movie overall though, and I would definitely give it another watch.
