FINALLY I got around to watching this. It was SO GOOD. I had no idea what it was about going into it, with low risk it was super high-brow and not interesting. Great plot line with twists and turns. Totally beautifully filmed with stunning eye for shots. Music was excellent - loved the juxtaposition of calming classical music over total chaos. Gives a real flavour of Korean life - from the food, down to the architecture and cities.

Well, I finally understand the hype surrounding this film. The familial interactions, the fraud, even the comedy; the thrill of it all was so immense. I don’t know much about Korean culture, but this film presented it in a way that could easily be enjoyed by anyone from anywhere in the world. I was sitting at a 9/10 for the majority of this film, but the ending does SO MUCH to tie this story into a nice bow and end the film in a tragic but hopeful way. This film is very unique, and I’d love to see more projects like it in the future.

I would absolutely recommend this film to anyone who has not already seen it. It's definitely something which I wasn't expecting and I can garuntee its a film which a lot of other people can not expect. Now I understand why bong joon ho is regarded as one of the best filmmakers/ screenwriters of the 21 century. Personally, I don't really think much of foreign films. I watched life I beautiful a couple years back and that left a special place in my heart as the best foreign film ever made. Then I watched parasite. Thankful for amazon prime, I whacked on this last night expecting it to be another emotional, heartbreaking film about a family (which is what a lot of foreign films are about). I was very wrong. This film has this creepy, sombre, gloomy, eerie atmosphere throughout which I abdoluelt love in all film and music. Examples of films with creepy atmospheres would be: There will be blood (which I regard as the great film of the 21st century) , the master, taxi driver (which I regard as the greatest film of all time) , the hateful eight ect. This is why I love all these films so much. Parasite executes this wonderfully and does a great job of morphing together this eerie vibe which stays throughout the film and leaves you wondering what the heck is going to happen next. I would probably have to make a spot for this on my top 10 list because it's so good. Definately one of the best films of the last decade. But I can't do this review without at all talking about the intricate, intruiging, vastly developing plot. With the first half of the film being a comedy about an extremely poor family, the second half is much much different. It gets to around the 1 hour mark when things take a turn for the worst and the film makes one of the must clever plot twists of all time. From there the situation continues to unravel and worsen for the two families, most of it being unknowing. This film is also the scariest film I have ever seen. Without being a horror film it has the most horrifying concept in a film. Ever. SPOILERS: Just think: you're a rich family with two children and unknowingly you hired a skint-poor family to come into your home (infiltrating it) and speak/ help/ teach your children. And then the old housekeeper turned out to have a husband living under the house for 4 years (which you had no idea about). I don't even need to mention the scene when the kid saw the ""ghost"" 😉. The scared the shit out of me. Overall this film is just great, nothing else to say. Just great - 10/10

Pretty speechless after finishing that. I dont even know what to do with myself. I think I need time to recover. But rating it.. completely loved it. I managed to avoid trailers and plots a whole year before watching it. So had no clue what it was about. Really well filmed. Loved the characters. Got pretty stoked about how good they were at finding a way in. Definitely took an unexpected turn near the end. But that was all well done film and writing wise. Made for an interesting watch. Score was good. One awkward sex scene. It's basically 2 different films, first half and second. I loved both. My family loved the first 😅 deepens on film taste I suppose. First half my favourite and second was shocking but still good to me! Gonna take me a while to recover from that ending 😄 but 100% worth a watch.

It makes you laugh, it makes you uncomfortable, it makes you think long and hard about the society we live in. Golden palm well deserved.

Finally got round to watching the last of the 2019 films and what a way to conclude them! This masterpiece absolutely swept up at the oscars and deservedly so. A true modern great of cinema. This one is a must watch. Really sucks you in with the lighthearted nature of a family barely getting by leaching off anything they could find for their benefit to one of the darkest turns i’ve ever seen on screen. The plot is clever, fast paced, and easy to follow even in a foreign language. Really enjoyed seeing the family sneak their way into eventually coming together and being employed under the one rich household. Eventually, the minute the family become content with life, plots take a turn for the worse and this is where the film really starts to go up a gear. Would really recommend as it has everything a movie needs. Drama, comedy, crime, romance and mystery Exceptional film. 9/10

I didn’t feel like this lived up to the hype. Sort of predictable and preachy.

Parasite/Gisaengchung is a "Stairway" genre movie about where the poor Kim Family takes a peculiar interest in the wealthy and glamorous Park Family, as they ingratiate themselves into their lives and get entangled in an unexpected incident. I'm going into this movie without knowing anything. I did not watch a single trailer for this movie. Only knowing the fact that this movie plays a lot on social commentary on today's social class and the movie receives eight minutes standing ovation at the Cannes Film Festival filming and also being the first-ever Korean movie to win the Palme d'Or award (I might be wrong about this one). Parasite/Gisaengchung reminds me of why I love movies. The pacing of the movie is naturally fast. The story was set up really well. It's tense, thrilling, horrifying, witty and it has a very well executed surefire kill ending. Every single scene was a joy to watch. Bong Joon-ho is a very meticulous director. He uses a certain shot or imagery to tell the story and likes to use vertical spaces symbolically to visualize class divides. Every single detail was thoughtfully created so those little details can help to tell the story perfectly. The way the movie shows us the problem with today's social class is through a lot of perspectives. For example through a rainstorm and shows how two different classes see and act based on this certain situation and show their own perspective. Also, the movie makes us question which one is the parasite? Is it the poor family that leaches on the wealthy by taking what's not belong to them? Is it the wealthy that leaches on the poor by taking their lifeblood, time and dignity because the rich think they have the obligation to do so, cause of the different sophistication level? or is it the emotional parasite which is hope. The thing that keeps us going, but sucks our marrow dry? Bong Joon-ho really deserves the "Best Director" nomination on The Oscars. Parasite/Gisaengchung also got the "Best Picture" Nomination at The Oscars. No doubt Bong Joon-ho shows that he is one of the best director in the world working today. Creating masterpiece every single time. Starting from Memories of Murder (2003), The Host (2006), Mother (2009), Snowpiercer (2013), Okja (2017) and now Parasite (2019). I highly recommended going into this movie knowing as little as possible about the movie. It's a roller coaster of cinema experience.

incredible film with a plot like nothing i have ever seen before it starts out quite comedic and light hearted and slowly develops over the whole of the film into this nightmarish horror, ultimately leading to the ending each character was so well written, and they all had their key roles to this story line, not one of them was pointless or unneeded like you see in a lot of films this films plays games with your mind in the sense that you don’t know who to side with. Do you side with the poor family who are trying to make a living and survive, even if that does mean having to manipulate and ultimately, not be very morally straight people ? Or do you side with the rich family, who while doing nothing wrong to anyone, also don’t do anything right - and that over the course of their successful lives, become naive to the world around them. This wasn’t like anything i expected when i first started watching it, but could now be up there with some of my favourite films To anyone who holds a slight prejudice to this film, and simply doesn’t want to watch due to the fact it’s in a different language, i would just say give it a watch because it would definitely blow your mind, as it did mine. The plot is so intricate and interesting yet is very easy to understand, despite having to use subtitles. 10/10 would very much recommend. can definitely see this being a cult classic - will be one of the big films from this era

I thought the movie was good. It's a bit weird. The first half is a comedy and the second half is a horror film. It definitely has some interesting themes explored around morality, ethics, and socio-economic classes. I enjoyed the movie and thought it was good, but I think it was heavily overhyped, and a bit overrated. I wouldn't call it the best movie ever, but definitely an interesting watch.

So different from what I expected and anything I’ve seen before! I expected more thriller and it’s really more comedy than thriller. The acting is phenomenal and some of the dialogue is really interesting. It has so many layers and a plot that just constantly evolves and you have no idea where you’re going! I can see why it got the Oscar, simply because it’s so different. I think it’s well deserved. I’ve been thinking... what’s the morale of the story? I’m not sure 🤔

I wasn’t crazy about it as much as others. I get it’s masterful in its technique; full of metaphors and foreshadowing and all that. And visually encapsulating. Not sure the final act worked for me. Need to watch again probably.
