About the movie

Aibileen Clark is a middle-aged African-American maid who has spent her life raising white children and has recently lost her only son; Minny Jackson is an African-American maid who has often offended her employers despite her family's struggles with money and her desperate need for jobs; and Eugenia "Skeeter" Phelan is a young white woman who has recently moved back home after graduating college to find out her childhood maid has mysteriously disappeared. These three stories intertwine to explain how life in Jackson, Mississippi revolves around "the help"; yet they are always kept at a certain distance because of racial lines.

Heartwarming and inspiring story - although kind of a bummer that it's not a true story. Great cast, literally every single character is a mega accomplished actor and the story itself highlights a time period that I didn't know a lot about. Would happily watch again.

En sød og gribende historie, der til trods for temaet egentlig er en feel good film. Octavia Spencer og Jessica Chastain spiller fremragende og filmen har et godt tempo. En sød film om en anden tid, men med et tema der fortsat er aktuelt.

This movie really makes you feel for the main characters and hate some of the others. That’s always a good sign of great acting to envoke such feelings.

A timeless movie, which shows a bit of how life was back then while also giving the thoughts of the characters space to be and grow in a natural way.

good movie in thought, with enough of humour in tough scenes, but the lack of male racism, put women in a weird possition

I was surprised by this movie; the first time I watched it was in high school history class, and I found myself glued to the screen. Watching it again as an adult, it became one of my favorites. The way this movie portrays daily life in a conservative town during the Civil Rights Movement, and how Skeeter’s actions shook everything up was very engaging: It’s kind of sad that something as simple as writing a book about people’s experiences was so dangerous back then, but I loved seeing everyone gradually working up the nerve to participate and making a difference because of it. Hearing the stories of all the maids was both fascinating and heartbreaking, especially Constantine. Strong performances all around, the only weak one was Mae Belle, but she was a little girl at the time so it’s a minor gripe. I loathe Hilly, in a good way; she’s a great villain, and seeing the many ways she gets her comeuppance is genuinely hilarious. I won’t spoil what the ‘Terrible Awful’ was that Minnie mentions several times, but it was probably the best revenge story I’ve seen in a movie. Overall, “The Help” is a full package: it’s happy, sad, suspenseful, funny, and it has something to say about racial injustice. Shockingly great.

This movie exceeded all of my expectations. I haven't watched this film before and I have no idea why. This was heartfelt, emotional, and really can open someone's eyes if they needed it. Octavia Spencer, and Viola Davis do an amazing job putting this story on the screen. Well done all around Positives: -The cast was amazing and so well done. From Spencer, to Davis, to Emma stone, and Dallas Bryce Howard. - The character development of Skeeter's mom throughout is wonderful and makes you cry almost. From breaking her maids heart to helping her daughter in the end. - The fact that they took that risk and made this book and it became so successful was just something that was amazing in society at the time and a true cultural reset as we would say. - I almost cried multiple times for the way that these maids were treated just because of the color of their skin, and it is not right. They couldn't use the same bathroom as white people, they had to do everything for the white people without even a thank you and I just can't imagine treating someone that way because of the color of their skin. - Everything from the comedy to the emotional side of this film was great and I can't wait to watch it again some day. Overall: 5 out 5 Stars

An aspiring author during the civil rights movement of the 1960s decides to write a book detailing the African American maids' point of view on the white families for which they work, and the hardships they go through on a daily basis.

The book was great and the movie was too which is not something I say very often. I'm one of those people who either likes the book or the movie but usually never likes both.
