Intense movie that had you on the edge of your seat the most of the time. Sometimes a little over dramatic for me, but the plot was entertaining to follow.

I probably had very high expectations for this one and I enjoyed his previous films (The Witch is perfect). This one is very good. Unsettling. Violent. Bleak. Well made. Well acted. A little bit “so what 🤷🏻‍♂️”. But I have no doubt that it’s going to become a favourite among the bros who loved films like Gladiator and Braveheart. It felt quite a bit like Apocalyptico (2006) in terms of it being a violent and bloody heroes journey.

From visionary director Robert Eggers comes The Northman, an action-filled epic that follows a young Viking prince on his quest to avenge his father's murder.

This man Robert Eggers knows how to make a film!! I love the Witch but I wasn’t the biggest fan of The Lighthouse. Even though I didn’t enjoy The Lighthouse I can admit it was very well made. This movie just proves how Robert Eggers isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.  This movie for me is in the middle of his previous work. I honestly didn’t love this movie as much as I thought I would. I do love the Viking setting and how well made it was but for me It kinda slowed down. The hero kinda stays in one spot for the entire second and third half the movie just messing with the villains. I know this movie has a nice budget and a more grand structure would of cost more money but I kinda felt miss lead. Alexander Skarsgard was great in this and really put out my favorite performance by him. His character was the typical “I want Revenge” personally but he still performed well . Everyone else was just as good really fitting in the Viking setting. I love me some Ethan Hawke and the little screen time he had really was entertaining. For me personally the one person who stood out and honestly stole the show was Nicole Kidman. Which surprised me because I think she’s a cool actress but never blown me away until now. If I’m being completely honest I love the technical aspect of this movie than the actual story. The cinematography, lighting, costumes, production design, CGI, and stunt work was absolutely amazing. That alone deserves a 10/10 from Robert Eggers and his team.  Overall I like The Northman but I didn’t love it as much as I thought I would. It is a very well done Viking movie but it kinda lost its steam it introduced for me. I more excited that a movie like this can still be made today. I know this movie bombed but I hope it gets a second life on VOD. I’m happy I was able to support this movie because stuff like this still needs to be made.

I wasn’t sure what to expect with this film as I hadn’t watched any trailers.. I really enjoyed it! It’s full of action and gore! Great scenery! Good story line which puts you back into the Viking days.. if you like bloody! Violence! And half naked men running around (fully naked at times) then this is the film for you!

Meh. Sinto que seria uma melhor experiência caso conhecesse algo sobre mitologia. Ou Shakespeare. Ótima cinematografia, no entanto. Sinto, também, que o foco do filme é a narrativa, não as personagens e os seus sentimentos, valores e motivações. Não existe character development e a premissa é até bastante simples. Mais uma vez, meh.

📣 Top user review: Robert Eggers does it again! This isn't just another viking movie, it is one of the BEST dramas ever! GREAT action & emotional too. A fitting end, while also setting up what's next. It is a stunning tale of betrayal and obsessive revenge. With excellent world building saturating every frame, it's one of the most transporting, magical, action-soaked films in some time. Must watch.

An absolute beast of a film. Entirely captivating in its brutality, it has a similar quality to The Green Knight of being sucked into a mythic saga. It still feels like an Eggers film and I’m incredibly pleased to see a lot of the stylistic impulses from The Witch and particularly The Lighthouse present here. A wildly cinematic, physical experience

Really great world building and engaging story. Got slow at points but the focus of the movie never drifted too far from the main plot.

The Northman is so fucking good. What an incredible experience sitting in Dolby Cinema. It's a bloody version of Vikings on acid. Great performances, beautiful cinematography, good revenge story, and bold thematics. If you get the chance, do check it.

Eggers' Viking Epic Is Brutal & Thrilling, Yet Lacking The film has a lot going for it, fantastic battle scenes & mysticism that elevates the protagonist’s journey, but it is lacking in overall character.

Robert Eggers’ brutal vision of vengeance and violence Alexander Skarsgård, Nicole Kidman, Björk and Anya Taylor-Joy feature in a mesmerisingly outrageous take on the Norse myth that inspired Hamlet.

Not weird or violent enough Robert Eggers' action-packed epic, which stars Alexander Skarsgård, Nicole Kidman and Anya Taylor-Joy, is unusual, but it isn't strange or brutal enough.

An epic tale of vikings, revenge, and mythology. Has a strong Macbeth vibe with all the scheming, intimacy, and witchcraft but it's pretty much all in simple English. Kind of slow at parts yet the action is incredible. Gorgeous settings and cinematography. Performances are solid all around, though it's mostly Skarsgard's movie. The score is both fitting and unnerving, featuring traditional throat singing and what I think is some didgeridoo. The movie is intense, brutal, and savage in turn, with a couple unnecessary elements that don't hurt but don't really add. I can't emphasize this enough though: THIS IS A MOVIE ABOUT VIKINGS, and a fairly accurate one. There's some nudity, a lot of blood, and even more violence. There are suggestions of rape (though it's never shown). There are multiple scenes featuring children being slaughtered and multiple animals are killed. Did I mention violence? It's not for the faint of heart. That said, my friend who can't handle gore did okay by just looking away a few times. For all the blood and murder, there's not a lot that's over-the-top gruesome. Anyway, this will probably become the quintessential viking movie moving forward and it deserves it.
