Super interesting, very relevant, and immensely important. This documentary has started a wave against social media that’s been a long time coming and isn’t that exactly what great documentaries do? I hope this will make people more conscious of how they use their time 🙏 I do think they overdo it a bit in the end with the demonstration and I think it ruins the credibility of the documentary a little bit. I wish they had toned it down a bit instead. My main thing critique is that I feel there’s a lot of finger pointing going on but very few solutions proposed. What’s the actual way to solve this? How are we digging ourselves back out of this situation? Doesn’t make it any less relevant but I wish they had pushed some of these creators to present ways out and how!

Nothing really groundbreaking or new unfortunately. I did not like the little fake family drama that ran alongside the interviews, felt very strange and awkward.

Finally watched it! This is instantly was not what I expected. The netflix poster made me think it was very teeny aimed at Gen-Z viewers. Nice to have adults, professionals speaking about this. Much better than I thought.  The actors scenes are a good visualisation (though not always fantastically acted or represented) and the graphics are very cool.. the algorithm man behind the screen. Liked that a lot. The figures of SH, depression and suicide relating to years of social media is sooo interesting. How the older generation has a lower change in comparison to gen-z era. So grateful I was born in a time that knew before social media so I can far easier take days off and be unaffected by amount of likes or followers etc. I know it wouldn’t be the case if I was born later. The hacker looking for human vulnerability in psychology is sooo interesting. LOVE the aesthetic of the closing credits. So good. So important to have some regulation and care. Very very true about how the real danger is really society’s reaction (like the hate, attacks, riots etc) honestly it frightens me a little.  It did tell a lot of what I knew already but important points and so interesting to see the psychology behind algorithm and the people behind making them. Great doc - so glad I finally watched it.

Not surprised, this is definitely the first of many bombshells that is about to surface from Silicon Valley. What we don’t know is probably scarier than this movie! But are you surprised? I’m sure the ceo of Marlboro could care less about the addictive property of the product; at the end of the day, business is business.. Steve Jobs never gave his kids iPads and, I think, prohibited screen time at all costs. I’m giving this an 8 because it’s important for consumers to know what it is they are consenting to. Otherwise, I think this film scratches the surface.

Scary! Some of it I did not really understand but what I did get was that this is like “big brother “ watching us, collecting data on us and thereby controlling us! I think I will cut down on my screen time! I think parents should really consider how much screen time their children have. Great quote “illegal drugs and social media both call their customers users”! Scary also that social media is polarizing society which is very obvious in these times.

Excellent and scary documentary about the manipulative nature social media plays on its users. This is a dangerous platform that started out innocent but is kind of off the rails. From teen depression to democracy being challenged at home and abroad, this documentary is very horizontal in its content and the addictive trap users are having a hard time escaping.

Very important to understand the impact social media has and how it functions. Using it consciously is crucial and this movie explains why.

Terrifying. I literally deactivated my facebook and twitter accounts in the first 15 minutes of watching this. BUT I believe it is an essential watch if you are to understand how damaging social media is.

This is a must-watch for anyone who uses social media and the internet in general, and if you have teens or tweens make them watch it!! We are all being targeted by our internet use and the extent of the harm it can cause to us, our children, and our country is really scary.

A girl from my class at uni recommended this documentary on Netflix. I will argue that it is a MUST WATCH for everyone! It’s so important to know and understand what’s going on behind our little screen in all the huge tech companies in Silicon Valley. Everything is told by people who have been in very high positions at the biggest SoMe companies and therefore has a huge insider knowledge. At the same time there is a concurrent fictive story to illustrate the points, everything is just very well made. If you’re interested in social media, psychology, machine learning, ethics, technology, algorithms, user behavior or even just have a social media profile (= everyone) then you should definitely watch. ⭐️

Absolutely garbage documentary/drama hybrid. This only showcases the negative sides of social media without regard to the positives and nothing presented is new information to anyone in the world. Waste of time all around, don’t watch.

This one didn’t really hit me with any sort of revelation. Social media is addictive, invasive, manipulative, and predatory, etc. This doc interviews insiders and gives data to back it up (although it is weirdly cut with an actor pretending to be an artificial intelligence algorithm). Revealing, sure. But does it say anything new?

I loved this one. Some of the “acting” scenes were bit off (reason for not rating 10) but the message that this documentary brings is so much worth it and makes you reflect. For sure it made me reflect. Tristan Harris has amazing point of views and explains the “problem” in a super easy-to-follow way.

- i think that everyone needs to watch this atleast once to understand how the media works and that it’s basically all about money
- i think this was filmed very well and the concepts are very complicated, but the interviewers help explain it well so that i can understand it
- also i think that this focuses on the negative impacts of it while sometimes mentioning the positive impacts, i think there are more positive impacts but i can see the negative impacts as well would recommend to others
would watch again (but not on my own time)
