Louis Theroux: Shooting Joe Exotic
2021 . Documentary

image6

I was excited for this! But it came across a little as Louis was just bitter he didn’t make Tiger King and he had all the material & just didn’t make it himself. Also got a bit boring in places, but maybe because I’m coming to Tiger King that was so sensationalist.

Extreme Ownership
2015 . Jocko Willink,Leif Babin

Excellent book built around taking proven battlefield principles and applying them to business. I enjoyed this book just as much for the details Afghan/Iraq war stories, as much as the business principles that subsequently followed - making it more than just hammering a set of principles home over and over again (that I find business books often fall into). My only critique was it assumes all principles from the battlefield perfectly apply to business. I wish they had a section where they called out nuances between the two contexts, and where approaches should differ. The final chapter on discipline got me FIRED UP 💪💪

Cruella
2021 . Comedy, Crime

image9

Ok this took me totally by surprise! I had the impression it was an animation sequel to 101 Dalmatians but it very much was not (for the better!) Totally feel good movie, with a banging soundtrack that has you dancing/laughing along throughout. Imagery is stunning, very Oliver Twist oldie-London. Acting is phenomenal - the two Emma’s are brilliant. Plot also super interesting, as a pre-quel to Cruella with plenty of plot twists just as you feel like you know where it’s going. Disney keeps surprising me 👏

CVI.CHE 105
Miami Beach . Peruvian

Some dishes here were a 10 (the thin slice whitetail, and the salmon avo sweet potato towers 😋), but there was a LOT of beans in everything and it was quite crammed in / a bit less upscale than I love. Lovely evening though 😍

Zuuk Mediterranean Kitchen
Miami . Mediterranean, Middle Eastern, American

Downgrading this to a 6 👎it used to be an excellent Mediterranean lunch option in Brickell. Salad base + protein + alllll the veggies 🍅🫑🧅 Now it’s one guy struggling to fill all delivery and walk in orders, with half the veggies run out and sad wilting salad. Took like 30 mins to make a sad salad booo

Billion Dollar Loser
2020 . Reeves Wiedeman

Excellent book detailing the rise and fall of Adam Neumann. It’s the equivalent of Bad Blood but for WeWork and a mind blowing story. 100% recommend if you don’t know the story for WeWork already, wish I had read this before listening to the podcast (WeCrashed) and watching documentary - so only giving an 8 as knew a lot of this before getting to the book.

Confessions of a Sociopath
2013 . M. E. Thomas

image5

I thought this looked great and it really wasn’t. It seems to promise a tale of what it’s like to be in a sociopath’s mind, how they think, what they do, and how you can understand their actions more as a result. Instead it reads as this confused, unstructured and really quite self-absorbed that I struggled to get much into. You are never going to or meant to like the narrator but instead of fascinating stories or ways she behaves, it hops between her childhood, the psychology and her present day in a whiplash way that made it impossible to follow 👎👎

Falko Beach Bar & Food
Hvar

Delicious cocktails and food, outdoors on Hvar overlooking the sea. We stopped off here on a boat day from Split and enjoyed a leisurely lunch and Aperol spritzes. Can imagine sunset time would be beautiful too
