Glitter
2001 . Drama, Romance

image2

Yeah… sorry Mariah. It’s bad. Realllllll bad. “Glitter” never seems to be able to establish its story at any point during its nearly 2-hour runtime. Without any depth, raw emotion, or clear motives, the 2001 film easily becomes dull within the first 10 minutes. Although the film’s soundtrack contains some fun MC hits and the film itself has a heartwarming ending, they can’t save the permanent mess made in every aspect of the project. All that glitters… is nothing.

Manifest
2018 . Drama, Mystery, Sci-Fi & Fantasy

image8

Although its pretty predictable plot and ill-developed characters have the potential of bringing the show down to a crash landing, the vast mysteries and stories of Manifest keep your eyes glued to the screen, waiting to see what’ll happen next. The cast give great performances, especially Jack Messina & Parveen Kaur, who portray Cal Stone & Saanvi Bahl, respectively.

Loki

image9

This is only two episodes in that I’m rating this a 9. Loki amazes with its eccentric concept and cast of characters that lead the series with confidence. The storyline follows and centers around the TVA, a mysterious new world that the MCU has yet to fully explore. So far it’s fun, rewatchable, captivating, and pretty worthy of a 10/10 soon. UPDATE 7/20/2021: After finally viewing the entire first season, I have to admit that Loki is undeniably the MCU’s best television series to date. The sci-fi theme is captured perfectly and the entire cast’s performances are truly captivating, especially special guest star Jonathan Majors in the finale. However, the highest score I will be giving this show is 9.5/10. Although it has forever changed the future of the MCU in an exciting way, Loki has not yet impressed me to the point where I’m head over heels. Maybe the second season will change my mind?

P!NK: All I Know So Far
2021 . Documentary, Music

image7

Why it may not give us a truly deep dive into the mind of the global sensation nor a true conflict, “P!NK: All I Know So Far” offers fantastic performances from her 2017 Beautiful Trauma tour, as well as heartwarming family moments that mothers & fathers around the world will personally connect with. Throughout the film, we get to learn about Pink and her family, including everything that’s led her to a energetic concert at Wembley. Even though Michael Gracey’s vision isn’t quite clear, we get to see the Moore/Hart clan in action, and all they know so far.

Soul
2020 . Family, Animation, Music, Comedy, Fantasy

image9

Soul is one of Disney Pixar’s most melodious works, with a beautiful jazz score and a unique storyline that proves itself to be one of their best works yet. While funny moments support the realistic, emotional plot, Jamie Foxx and Tina Fey lead the cast with excellent vocal work. The visuals are a stunning sight to see and they’re mostly what keep you watching until the very end. This film is a must-watch for everyone young or old, because no story will ever have as much soul as this one.

Carrier
2019 . Fiction, Arts

image9

“Carrier” quickly became one of my favorite podcasts of all-time with its compelling storyline, a thrilling vocal performance by Cynthia Erivo, and the immersive listening experience that makes it unlike the regular podcast. It’s a must-hear for those who crave a good audio experience, and it’s surely not a podcast to miss.

2015 . Arts, Business, Comedy

image10

“My Dad Wrote a P*rno” is THE most hilarious, outrageous, captivating, surreal, confusing, and refreshing podcasts that you will ever come across. No explanation is even needed for newcomers; just start from the very beginning and everything will come into play perfectly. Also, don’t listen to this while driving!

Black Widow
2021 . Action, Adventure, Thriller, Science Fiction

image8

After an entire year without any MCU content, Marvel Studios has officially released “Black Widow” in currently-open theaters, and my goodness, how we’ve missed this kick-ass franchise. The Scarlet Johansson-led film is action-packed and a thrill to see, especially in the visual effects area. It gives us a deep dive into Natasha Romanoff’s history, including who she was before she became an Avenger. The supporting cast also does a phenomenal job, with Florence Pugh (Yelena Belova) being the main highlight of it all. It’s definitely a must-watch for Marvel fans, but it’s also a must-watch for those who want to see one of 2021’s best action films.

The Boss Baby: Back in Business
2018 . Animation, Action & Adventure, Comedy

image9

I was introduced to this show by my younger brother, and as a person who enjoyed the film adaptation, I definitely cherished the TV show whole-heartedly. Netflix’s The Boss Baby: Back In Business follows older brother Tim, The Boss Baby, and his infant crew as they go on several quests to bring baby love to the spotlight, while making some enemies in the process. This show is meant for children, but I found it to be ridiculously funny, bringing out the inner child in me. And at special moments, the binge-watchable series can be super heart-warming with its clear themes of family, change, and love. Honestly, I’d recommend checking it out, especially with younger siblings. 💛

Hamilton
2020 . Music, History, Drama

image10

As a thespian, musician, and a Hamilfan, I indisputably treasure the fact that a professional HD recording of the Pulitzer Prize-winning smash hit Hamilton has been made available for viewing internationally. The score, book, and lyrics, which were all written by Lin-Manuel Miranda, are truly the best to have ever debuted on Broadway, and the choreography, costumes, set design, orchestrations, and every aspect of the creative side are just perfectly flawless as well. Miranda leads a star-studded cast featuring the likes of Philippa Soo, Leslie Odom Jr., Renée Elise Goldsberry, Daveed Diggs, Christopher Jackson, Jonathan Groff, Anthony Ramos, Okieriete Onaodowan, Jasmine Cephas Jones, Ariana DeBose, Ephraim Sykes, and many more. Hamilton is not only a must-watch for theatre kids around the world, but it’s a film that everyone must view once in their lives, as it tells the story of one of America’s founding fathers and his peers in an entirely revolutionary way.
