Bravey
2021 . Alexi Pappas

image10

Bravey is one of those books where you're sad it's done, and read it too quickly because it's so good. It’s a memoir by Olympian and filmmaker Alexi Papas about mental health, family, running, being a woman, going to the Olympics, and more. Alexi is so vulnerably honest, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone, even if you're not into running. Trigger warning: contains passages about her mother's suicide and her own suicide ideation.

The Corrections
2001 . Jonathan Franzen

image10

The plot revolves around an elderly Midwestern couple and their three children, and dives into the deep dysfunction within their family. It's simultaneously anxiety-inducing and hilarious, and it's really smartly written. I'd definitely suggest it if you're looking for a high-quality book that's still accessible!

Malibu Rising
2021 . Taylor Jenkins Reid

Very quick, enjoyable read without being a cheesy book. The plot was pretty interesting and it’s the same author as Daisy Jones & the Six if you liked that one!

The Woman in the Window
2018 . A. J. Finn

This one was definitely a page turner! It had very similar vibes to Girl on a Train, so if you liked that one, you’ll like this one too. It’s a great thriller and the story is well told!

Too Good to Be True
2021 . Carola Lovering

The plot was interesting, but wrapped a bit too neatly in a bow at the end. Felt a bit cheesy at times.

Homeland Elegies
2020 . Ayad Akhtar

image10

This book is so powerful and well written. Ayad shares what it’s been like for him to live in America as a Muslim, especially in a post-9/11 world. Highly recommend.

Honey Girl
2021 . Morgan Rogers

Quick read and a nice story, but the plot felt a little forced at times.

This Close to Okay
2021 . Leesa Cross-Smith

About a therapist who saves a guy from jumping off a bridge and then follows their weekend together. It wasn’t my favorite, but wasn’t bad.

Purity
2015 . Jonathan Franzen

image10

Jonathan Franzen is an incredible writer - can def see similarities between him and David Foster Wallace, with Franzen being more accessible. The story has a few different plot lines that all converge the further into it you get, and the characters are complex and funny. Would definitely recommend!

Reallyyyy good sushi! A little expensive, but the quality is great. We got the Shaggy Dog and Tuna Crunch rolls, and they were 🔥🔥🔥

Got the Athenian omelet and a sour cream donut and it was awesome! Great quick breakfast spot with friendly staff.

Mom & Pops Burgers
Chatham . American, Fast food, Take-out

Wowwww the veggie burger I got here is so amazing and the fries were bomb. We got everything takeout and the staff here was super safe with COVID - they had everyone wait for food in their cars and the person bringing the food was double masking. Usually, burgers can be hit or miss with takeout since they don’t always hold up well, but ours stayed warm and tasted incredible. Absolutely recommend!

The Assistant
2020 . Drama

image5

The acting is good, but there’s no plot. It follows an assistant of a Weinstein-type character, but the whole thing just takes place over a day. Not the worst movie I’ve ever seen, but I’m not really into Indie movies, and this had that kind of vibe.

Americanah
2016 . Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

One of those books where I’m really sad it’s over. So well written, really insightful commentary on race and cultural differences, and so enjoyable to read. Absolutely recommend!

Jojo Rabbit
2019 . Comedy, War, Drama

I’d heard a lot of good reviews for this movie and was def let down. Not much of a plot moving the story forward and I didn’t get attached to any of the characters.
