Star Wars the High Republic: Into the Dark
2021 . Claudia Gray

image10

I don’t even know how to write this review or where to start. This novel is such an awesome look into new segments of the High Republic era of Star Wars! Wonderful Jedi characters, an interesting trade guild, pilots, and a living rock named Geode! All around, there are so many emotions presented that show how even Jedi questioned the actions of the Jedi Order during this prosperous time in the history of the Republic. I definitely recommend!

Star Wars: Light of the Jedi (The High Republic)
2021 . Charles Soule

What an incredible introduction to the newest era of Star Wars: The High Republic. This novel does amazing things to establish the galaxy and the roles of those within it from the Jedi, politicians, the evil Nihil, and ordinary citizens. In addition, this novel introduces so many wonderful Jedi, but the new Master and Padawan pair Loden Greatstorm and Bell Zettifar are some of my favorites. Can’t wait to continue my journey through this era!

A Crash of Fate (Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge, #1)
2019 . Zoraida Córdova

One of the best Star Wars books I’ve read in a long time. I pray to one day have a love like Izzy and Jules. “he was struck by three things. One, there was nothing and no one in the galaxy as beautiful as Izal Garsea. Two, he was certain that the mechanisms of the world, the stars, luck, the Force itself, had brought her back to him somehow. And he loved her.” (Córdova, 267)

Star Wars: Thrawn Ascendancy (Book I: Chaos Rising)
2020 . Timothy Zahn

image10

Per usual, Timothy Zahn and Thrawn manage to drag me into a story that I cannot draw away from until I’ve finished it. I absolutely loved the insight into the Chiss Ascendancy through Thrawn, Ar’alani, Thalias, Che’ri, and many others. Excited to see where this trilogy goes especially with Star Wars: Thrawn Ascendancy: Greater Good coming later this year.

Shatterpoint: Star Wars Legends
2005 . Matthew Stover

Unabridged Audiobook (9/10): The unabridged audiobook of this amazing novel was my first dive into Star Wars Legends and man was it brilliant! Mace Windu has always been one of the Jedi that I have wondered most about and this story is so heavily focused on him, his actions, and his inner feelings. “Did we win?” “He seemed to be the last one standing.” (Chapter 23).

Batman: Three Jokers
2020 . Geoff Johns

image9

This story arc is very interesting in its concept (there has always been more than one Joker in Gotham City). The focus on Joker’s impacts on Batman, Red Hood, and Batgirl individually is addressed through brilliant artwork from both the present day and the past. My largest complaint with this one is that it’s simply way too short; I would’ve loved for this story to be longer!

Star Wars: Victory’s Price
2021 . Alexander Freed

The final entry in the Alphabet Squadron trilogy is crafted in such a way that brings closure to so many characters and adds to a pre-existing character (Hera Syndulla) in ways that felt true to her character. I know this is the end of these novels, but I’d love to see more stories revolving around Kairos, Nath, Chass, Wyl, and Quell following the end of the Galactic Civil War at the Battle of Jakku. This novel is a bit slow at the beginning, but picks up in parts 2 and 3 with a great conclusion in part 4.

Star Wars: The High Republic: A Test of Courage
2021 . Justina Ireland

This is the second entry into the High Republic era of Star Wars and I’ve gotta say, the story is a BLAST. We meet some wonderful new Jedi as well as children of politicians as they work to survive after disaster strikes. This is geared towards young readers, however, I found lots of joy in the story told, the feelings of each character, and potential impacts on adults like me. This book would be great for Star Wars fans of any age!

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (Star Wars)
2016 . Alexander Freed

Alexander Freed does something that many authors don’t do as effectively: he is able to get inside the mind of many different characters throughout his stories and this novelization is no exception. This novel adds so much to the amazing film and helps you to better understand the motivations behind characters and their actions. This book is absolutely incredible, if you enjoyed the film, you’ll enjoy this novel.
