Black Panther
2018 . Action, Adventure, Science Fiction

One of the best films, if not the best, in the MCU. The story is fantastic and the villain has a backstory that you can really get behind. The visuals are AMAZING, you really get a sense of the amount of time and research that went into this. Of course Boseman is wonderful too but really the whole cast delivers. WAKANDA FOREVER.

A classic in everyway. So many wonderful songs and moments. Julie Andrews is magical.

Your Name.
2016 . Romance, Animation, Drama

This film really blew me away. The characters are wonderful and the storytelling is so heartfelt, it made me completely emotionally invested very quickly and left me feeling like I didn't want the film to end. It also gets top marks for having such an interesting and unique plot, one that I was not expecting - I went in thinking this was a romcom meets Freaky Friday, but I would say it's closer to Spirited Away meets Interstellar. It wouldn't be fair to write a review and not mention the animation, which is STUNNING. Such a wonderfully accurate depiction of Japan's beautiful details, it really does transport you. A must watch πŸ₯²

National Theatre Live: A Midsummer Night's Dream
2019 . Comedy, Fantasy

I was actually at the live performance that they recorded for this and so I'm rating on the live performance rather than the recording. The reason I start with that is because this show felt like one big party and I'm not sure if that will convey in the same way. It was so much fun though, acrobats in silks performing above your head, a set that you constantly move around, BeyoncΓ©, glitter canons, huge balloons and Gwendolyn Christie (and for the Shadow and Bone fans, Jesper!). What more could you ask for? Really good fun and a bit of magic.

National Theatre Live: Present Laughter

I cannot quite convey how good this was. Andrew Scott is brilliant in this play and it had me crying from laughter throughout.

The Trial of the Chicago 7

Really loved this film. Super interesting topic that I knew little about, incredible cast and just so well put together - there are a lot of characters to follow but it's not confusing and you feel invested in them all.

Such a wonderful film. Great plot with actually some great twists and beautiful animation based around the Dia de los Muertos in Mexico. Touches on some really sad topics though so be prepared to get the tissues out 😒

The Grand Budapest Hotel
2014 . Comedy, Drama

Wes Anderson's carefully curated colour palettes are such a joy in this film. Paired with the quick-witted dialogue and fast-pacing, it really is a spectacle. Thoroughly enjoyable and silly.

The Matrix

Before Nolan's sciencey, mind-bending thrillers there was... The Matrix. Iconic film which seemed to father a whole genre and create one of the easiest Halloween costumes.

Ready Player One
2018 . Science Fiction, Adventure, Action

I am probably tacking on a few extra points for the sheer nerdiness of it all and the full blown hommage to the 80s. I feel like they had fun writing this film, it's a decent story with a lot of fun ideas on what the future could look like.

Pan's Labyrinth

One of my all time favourites. Wonderful mix of fantasy intertwined with historical events. Dark but beautiful story.

David Attenborough: A Life on Our Planet
2020 . Documentary

image10

"If we take care of nature, nature will take care of us" πŸŒ±πŸŒπŸ’” Attenborough knocks it out the park with this documentary which is labelled as his "witness statement" on mankind's destruction of biodiversity. Providing tangible consequences to our actions and well... spoilers but if we don't change our ways soon the 2030s are going to be a bumpy ride towards extinction. Educational, very emotional but with enough light at the end to give you a glimmer of hope.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story
2016 . Action, Adventure, Science Fiction

Loved the storyline and incredible action sequences. Loved that there was minimal Jedi involvement and the heroes are the ordinaries of the universe. Loved that it ties in so perfectly with Episode 4 πŸ‘Œ

Star Wars
1977 . Adventure, Action, Science Fiction

A classic which kick started the whole, wonderfully quirky Star Wars universe. Not all Star Wars films are created equally but this is one of the best with kitsch jokes, strong characters and wonderful, simple story lines exploring good vs evil.
