Stephanie Izard’s “genius vision” defines this “hopping” West Loop “star” known for “life-altering” small plates that feature both “fun” uses of “familiar ingredients” and more “adventurous options” (“the pig face is a must”), plus “amazing breads and butters”; the “high demand” for reservations keeps it “packed with people”, but “strong cocktails” and a staff that “makes you feel special” help ease the inevitable “long wait.”

The revolving door never stops turning as Girl & The Goat’s party keeps going. Even on a Monday night, guests linger for hours, shouting over the din at this sceney but always friendly stunner. Appropriately rustic wooden pillars and beams connect a warren of seating areas, from elevated platforms to banquettes to dim private corner nooks. A pick-your-own-protein adventure, the menu is organized by ingredients with a dedicated section for goat. Start with freshly baked ham bread accompanied by smoked Swiss cheese-butter seasoned with coarse mustard and olive tapenade. End with an almost pudding-like “all leches” cake enriched with strawberry-rhubarb sorbet. The kitchen may even send out mini portions of menu items for solo diners—a truly thoughtful touch.

Hard to get in, but once you do, the goat shoulder is amazing!
