I was Mormon until recently, and while the show seems to exaggerate how Mormons in general are (although I didn't grow up in Utah in the 80's so maybe it's accurate), the facts of the religion's disturbing history and the Church's attempts to hide those facts from members still remain. Some people may choose to believe anyway if they were made aware and some may leave, but they should know how their church was started and what type of men started it.

📣 Top user review: The church's history is dark and a lot of devout Mormons get really defensive when its brought up. Just like how the detective reacts to some of the testimony of the husband on mormon history. In the end, the shows great so far. This is an excellent series that will get backlash from Utah and devout Mormons trying to protect the church.

While Under the Banner of Heaven gets bogged down by an overabundance of backstory, its procedural through-line is enriched by a thoughtful introspection on personal faith.
